Celebrating six decades as Australia’s longest-serving motorhome manufacturer, Avida is marking its 60th anniversary with a significant milestone: the launch of its first-ever 4×4 campervan, the Explorer LX. Designed for the growing demand in off-grid travel, the adventure-ready campervan will hit dealerships in early 2025.

Built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter AWD 419, the Explorer LX is geared to tackle some of Australia and New Zealand’s most remote areas while offering a level of comfort more commonly associated with luxury motorhomes. The campervan features leather interiors, black fixtures, and a rugged yet sleek exterior in Blue Grey. With these inclusions, Avida is stepping into the competitive off-road market with its highest-specification campervan to date.

A Shift Toward Off-Grid Independence

Avida’s new campervan showcases a a greater shift to off-grid independence, with a suite of capabilities that includes 400W solar panels, a 400-amp lithium battery system, and rooftop air conditioning. The Explorer LX offers diesel-powered hot water and heating, along with a portable induction cooktop for flexible indoor and outdoor cooking options.

The design also emphasises practical features such as a fully contained bathroom that doubles as a drying room, flexible storage solutions for gear, and tie-down points in the rear. Dual water tanks totalling 170L allow users to separate drinking water from other supplies, while a 100L grey water tank supports longer stays in isolated areas.

Rugged by Design

Externally, the Explorer LX reinforces its off-road credentials with a 50-inch LED light bar, rear ladder, spare wheel carrier, and full-length side protection steps. Optional add-ons like a front winch, engine snorkel, and alloy wheels allow owners to customise the van for more extreme conditions.

With its introduction, Avida is aiming to carve out a niche in the burgeoning 4×4 campervan market, offering a vehicle tailored to meet the demands of adventurers without sacrificing comfort.

What’s Next for Avida
