This is a compact 4WD motorhome with a one piece moulded fibreglass body on a Toyota Hilux 2.8 D-4-D chassis with a Lovell suspension rated at 3,500kg GVM and the usual high road clearance of a Hilux to enable off road travel. The body has no edge joints to crack, flex or leak. The rigidity of the body has protected the internal joinery which is in perfect condition even after 69,000km of mainly outback travel. We bought the vehicle new in July 2019 and have done three long trips, a lap to WA and back, a central Australia trip and a trip up through Queensland to the Gulf and across to NT as well as many shorter trips in NSW and Victoria during Covid and since. Our average fuel consumption since new has been just over 12l/100km and the 140litre fuel tank gave a comfortable range of 1,000km between fills. The compact size means that it is easy to drive and can be parked in many carparks.
Here are some of the features of this motorhome.
-Good interior layout with cooktop, sink and adequate prep/serving space all on one bench
-140 litre fuel tank
-110 litre fresh water tank and 55 litre grey water tank
-Cassette toilet
-Shower and toilet, separable by a plastic roller curtain
-Gas cooktop
-Exhaust fan and light over cooktop
-Microwave oven
-12/240V 140 litre fridge
-Gas/electric hot water and van heating. Totally silent, not like a diesel heater
-2 x 9 litre gas bottles in outside locker
-External gas bayonet
-300 Watt solar panels
-2 x 100 Amp/hour AGM batteries
-2000 Watt inverter with two 240V power outlets. Comfortably runs a toaster or jug
-Airconditioning
-TV
-LED lighting throughout including three reading lights
-2 fans which swivel to adjust
-2 Roof vents each with reversible fan
-The lounge can be converted into a small single bed
We have cared for this vehicle by having it serviced in accordance with Toyota’s regular schedule and by taking it back to the manufacturer, Explorer Motorhomes, in Brisbane to have the body and its internal fittings routinely checked as they recommend. At 53,000km we put on new tyres and in June 2022 we replaced the AGM batteries. The motorhome has performed perfectly throughout and given us no worries. We would expect that it would do the same for a new owner for many years to come.
